I thought I was writing a bit more often than this! I don't work so you would think that I would have more time to write. Evidently I don't!
Things are normal here. Air conditioner man here to check the air. I may have to have a new one. some strange whistling noise and it is loud.
I put down sod in the front of my house. Actually I paid to have a landscaper do it. Now every day for three weeks I have to water it. I suppose if I lived in dry state I would have to water it for a lot longer than three weeks.Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06518530391865036209noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1225689855456087863.post-37525552496903353792016-04-21T11:34:00.000-07:002016-04-21T11:50:28.774-07:00Julie

Just thinking about Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music. She sang a song with the lyrics "Nothing comes from nothing. Nothing ever will." What does that really mean? I guess that if you do nothing you will have nothing and be nothing. Or some such philosophy; in that same song she also has a line that says, "somewhere in my wicked miserable past I must have done something good." I don't really think that good things happen because you do good things or that evil things happen if you do evil. I think that it is just life.
In both of these she is posing with Christopher Plumber. I always liked him as an actor, but he has been in some very blah movies recently. I didn't like the Girl with the Dragon Tatoo.Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06518530391865036209noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1225689855456087863.post-77153301760440471252016-01-16T08:19:00.001-08:002016-01-16T08:19:29.566-08:00Board of EducationThis week I went to the Talawanda School District Board of Education meeting as the League of Women Voters representative.

Various procedural Items were addressed. The recently
elected members were sworn in and Mr. Butterfield and Dr. Crowder were elected
President and Vice President of the board.
Board members were appointed as liaisons for the year. Dr. Roberts and
Dr. Crowder were appointed academic liaisons and will submit quarterly
reports. Mr. Butterfield and Mr. Otto
were appointed athletic liaison and will submit quarterly reports. Ms. Vollmer
will continue as the Butler Tech liaison and Dr. Roberts will continue as the
legislation liaison both submitting monthly reports. Members also selected buildings for which
they will represent the board at various functions.

The issue that interested me the most was the building of a new Kramer. I wondered how they could build and pour concrete with the freezing cold and the snow. Evidently they raise tents and have heaters there to keep the ground an even temperature and things moving on a schedule. Of course the next day I had to go by Kramer to see what he was talking about. But I only saw plastic flapping in the breeze no big tents.

In the "Study Of Moses" I learned about Jewish traditional sacrifices and about the one true living sacrifice. The tribe of Levi was the tribe of priests. They were given a responsibility from God to lead the Jewish people in worship. Part of the worship was the sacrificial offering. Within their practice there were 5 types of offerings: the burnt offering, fellowship offering, the sin offering, the grain offering and the guilt offering. The burnt offering was totally incinerated, the blood was sprinkled on the alter, and made atonement for sins. For the grain offering not blood was shed so it was a offering of thanksgiving. With the Fellowship offering the worshipper celebrated (shalom or) peace with God. Again with the sin offering blood was shed and in the book of Leviticus a list of acceptable offerings and steps people were to take to be reconciled with God. The guilt offering was given as an offering done to another person or his property through carelessness. Reconciliation was its primary purpose.
All of this was terribly interesting to me. I had previously thought that there was only one sacrifice made at the temple for all the people and then the blood was sprinkled on the congregation. I learned that some were to give a pleasing aroma for/to God; others were to be as an atonement for sins.

Today Christians have a relationship with God because Jesus was the supreme sacrifice. His death was the final and now only necessary sacrifice. He died who knew no sin that we might live a holy relationship with God our Father. Jesus died that we could approach God. In the book of Ephesians, Apostle Paul urges us to walk in a manner worthy of the calling according to the power of the Holy Spirit within us. I believe this is possible only when we listen to what God is telling us to do daily.Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06518530391865036209noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1225689855456087863.post-83355815556226290452016-01-02T16:44:00.002-08:002016-01-02T16:44:18.008-08:00Goals for 2016Measureable goals are the best. Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06518530391865036209noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1225689855456087863.post-41552825251019018532016-01-01T10:19:00.000-08:002016-01-04T11:45:49.247-08:00Happy New Year!So last year was a bust as far as things that I wrote. I could actually write something about each month on three outsides of envelopes.
January: I baby sat that adorable grandson for 16 of the days. I also went to two Bible studies, One was BSF about Moses and the other was from the book of Romans.
I couldn't figure out how to get photos here from my phone. I think I need a Mac computer.
February: In February I babysat 16 days and didn't have a valentine. Boo hoo!
March: I babysat for 12 days. We had Lita's wedding shower at La Rosas and I visited JoAnn in Kentucky.
April: Kathy and Mick visited Ohio and stayed here while I was in Indy babysitting for 15 days . We did some yard work and cut down the vines on the back porch.
May: I went to visit friends and family over Mothers day weekend in Maryland and Virginia. JJ took me to the movies. We saw the "Longest Ride" a feel good romance. the spring field theater had recliners for seats. I baby sat for 10 days.
June: I went to two baby showers for three children on the same Saturday. Lori and Chuck's twins and Pam's little girl, Olive. Lita's wedding was the main event.

Thea and Paul, Dad, Rachel and Jay and Rob all came and stayed in Oxford. Kathy and Mick also came and stayed here through the fourth of July. Tutu and Ayo's son Deji son got married.
July: I baby sat and Nora and Ronnie moved to Florida. I also worked on the kitchen crew for VBS at OBF.
August: I went to a slew of doctors appointments and found that the only thing wrong is diabetes. I have had that for a long time. I need to get a handle on the diet and exercise parts of it. This was a wake up call do something or else.
September: Began two new Bible studies: Jeremiah and Revelations. I can see God's had moving in these studies. I feel that since I have retired I no longer have a major purpose. So the purpose now is to live Day by day.
October: Studying God's prophecy is amazing. Began to attend some political events for various things. Notably when Time Derickson threw his hat into the ring for congressional representative.
November: Involved with Tim and Kelly Derickson's campaign through prayer and attending political events. Went to League of women voters meeting and got involved peripherally. Had an adventure riding the Miami Metro/BCRTA bus. Met and entertained a new Chinese student Qi. Baby sat 2 days. Helped Tutu have a party. Picked up Suzette from the Cincinnati Airport and got lost coming home.
December: Played cards with Wanda and Carolyn Garnett. Continued with two Bible studies and reading Mere Christianity. I attended a fund raiser for a charity called the Jingle Bell Ball and a fund raiser for Tim Derickson in Middletown. I spent some time with Nancy Jobe Hawkins. She is trying to decide to come to OBF. Her husband is very nice and works at Gilmans. She and I also went to Metamora for a breakfast. Christmas was a Joe and Alicia's house in Zionsville.

And so a quick year in review without any photos because I don't know how to do that.
Halloween has come and gone. A very expensive holiday is past; so much money for the candy companies and so much fun for the kids. Jones was a baseball.

Katie made the costume. At first he was a lot afraid of it, but with a little bit of friendliness, I was able to help him like the ball. First I showed him how to look inside of it. Then we gave it a snack. Soon he was comfortable with it.

So what have you been doing this Halloween-All Saints Day?Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06518530391865036209noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1225689855456087863.post-23686407697355611272015-09-12T11:27:00.002-07:002015-09-12T11:27:58.075-07:00SeptemberWell another month has come and gone. Lita and Nigel live with me and in the evenings we play cards. According to Lita's records I have won the most games I am not so sure though. I have also been playing games on the computer and of course reading.
I read a great book called The Land of the Blue Burqas. It is about a woman's life in Afghanistan, very interesting. According to the author a woman has about as many rights as a camel and is often treated like one or even worse than the camel. From the book I am also seeing life in the Middle east from a historical prespective.Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06518530391865036209noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1225689855456087863.post-42902009056887194532015-08-21T16:59:00.001-07:002015-08-21T16:59:30.985-07:00School started this week.School started this week and I only drove by once to see what was happening with the building plan. the school where I taught was built in 1951 and an addition was added in 1961. After all these years they are building a new school.
ON Wednesday night Cathy Geyer and I went to Kramer and drove around the crushed gravel road to see what changes have happened. The hill where we used to go sledding is now a big hole for a basement. The busses now drive around to the back black top to drop kids off for breakfast and school. I guess they dismiss out back too. In the front there is all parking. No more grassy area by the gym. But the kids can still play on the back playground. I wonder where they have Phys. Ed classes? I think I should take a picture. Maybe tomorrow morning.Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06518530391865036209noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1225689855456087863.post-20655786012378726492015-08-15T10:22:00.002-07:002015-08-21T16:59:51.965-07:00What To Do If you are a Retired Teacher? This week had some interesting events occur.
It rained some so I didn't get to swim, but I did walk three days. Whoo! Whoo! Not for long though. I must not get discouraged.
For the first time in a long time I got to have lunch with the retired Kramer lunch bunch. I heard some funny stories about former students. I enjoyed soup and salad. And I have two prayer requests. Susan Gresham and Marilyn Young have cancer. We also learned that the teachers at Kramer have no where to park. The parking lots are where the new building is going to be. So glad I retired. Its also going to be a hot first week of school and a five day one at that. School starts on the 17th of August.
ON Tuesday morning I went to have blood drawn at the hospital. Now you sign in and wait a long time to be told to walk down to the Lab. The technician found some blood in me, and took out 7 vials for the tests I have to have done. I still have a bruise. It is fading though.
Thursday I did some running around to Richmond, Indiana and got tickets to the Indianapolis zoo. We are going tomorrow for Lita's birthday. And I got Lita's presents.
Friday, daytime I cleaned the OBF kitchen. And then last night I went to a Missoula children's theater. The kids there preformed "The Little Mermaids" not the Disney or Anderson version. It was a bit long for me as I didn't have any children in it. The story was cute and the kids did a great job for one week of practice.
Also this week I had two nights of cards playing Hand and foot. Fun family night.

Trying hard not to avoid people and to have a good time. Even if I am a retired teacher. FYI I have only bought a few school supplies: two boxes of markers, two erasers and one package of notebook paper. Total spent $3.00 yeah me.6+*999999999999999994555555555 thanks for the help cats!
Discovered a new problem last weekend. I can't swim under water any more. Well, I can. I just can't go as far or as fast.
So today I resolved to exercise more. Seems like I said that before. Like everything else, you just have to do it. FYI medical bills are not what I want to spend my retirement on.
Checking up on my goals for this year: I did go to Lita's wedding. So that is a done. That is about all though.
I promise to do better in the next 4 months.
Yes I know it is February and almost Joe's birthday. I can't help it if I am never home long enough to work on this blog and to really figure out what I am doing. The traveling makes me miss home and all I want to do is curl up with a good movie or book when I get home. So every week I go to Katie and Dustin's on Monday and babysit baby Jones until Thursday night and then I drive home. If I have energy I plan to do something on Friday and Saturday and then it is Sunday and time to go back.
So far I haven't done much; mostly only go shopping!
I tried to go to see Monica one Saturday. No energy.
So Do I have a list for this year? I need to see what last year's list looked like.
Well:
I had planned to eat better, exercise more, take control of my reading, writing, and finances. As well as improve my prayer life and my Bible study.
I am most proud of how well I have taken charge of my Bible study and finances.
This years goals:
1. Eat more fruit and vegetables by trying to include two at each meal.
2. Exercise every day.
3. Have a daily quiet time.
4. Try a new craft.
5. Read and write some every day.
6. Things I would like to do:
a. Go somewhere I have never been.
b. Call my sister more often.
c. Find some antique children's books.
d. Finish my embroidery projects.
e. Take a vacation.
7. Go to Lita's wedding.
8. Help the poor in a meaningful way.
9. Visit Jonathan and Lauren in Denver.
10. Plant flowers with Alicia in May.

That is good except I have to have two lives one in Indianapolis and one here in Oxford. The one in Indianapolis is definitely more exciting. Here in Oxford I watch movies on Netfllix. I read books and I do random chores. It is hard to clean some when I am only home 2 or 3 days a week. This week I am trying to pack on all kinds of things because I don't know when I will be here again.
The first meeting was this week and I now have a new friend Katheryne Burke Taylor. She is the niece of Dale and Becky Burke, OBF's first pastor and his wife. The speakers words of the lesson were Only God. Well, only God could have had Katheryne sit down in the sanctuary of hundreds and sit by me!
So far I have learned that Moses wrote the first 4 books of the Bible, Genesis, Exodus Leviticus Numbers, but I guess I never thought about that idea. How did he know what to write for Genesis? My thoughts are that he heard the word of God as it was passed down orally generation to generation. When he wrote it down on the scrolls, I don't think God had control of his hand but that the Holy Spirit spoke to Moses' heart through the memories he had as a child. Surely his mother told him the stories of Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. I know that he also had knowledge of Joseph. So if he wrote them down he must have heard them over and over and memorized them.
I have also learned that Only God could have planned that Pharaoh's daughter could find a Hebrew baby in the bulrushes and save him from death. Only God could have had his mother still be his nurse and then let a Hebrew be raised in the Pharaoh's court.
I am trying to memorize a verse of scripture each week. This week it is Deut.7:9 "Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments."
Here are a few other principles I have learned this week.
1. God comforts us in our suffering so that we may comfort others and so we may grow in our faith.
2. God has a plan for each of our lives. Yet we are to plan and be guided by His principles, trusting God for the outcome.
3. God placed all of us in a family.Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06518530391865036209noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1225689855456087863.post-79403548152515231102014-08-29T12:02:00.001-07:002015-08-21T17:00:15.770-07:00And now It is almost September?!!!Wow!
Where did the summer go? I have really been loving babysitting my grandson. While I am babysitting the day seems slow moving but then I turn around and it is either lunch time or dinner time.
I find this to be a truly rewarding job. It is relaxing to rock a baby and rewarding to have him eat and burp. It is also great fun to talk to him and have him smile and this past week even laugh.
Love being a grandma!
It is August and I am at Katie's house babysitting for Jonesy. He was very good for a baby today. only a little fussy around dinner time. Where did July go?
Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06518530391865036209noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1225689855456087863.post-28184087287984571922014-07-15T19:20:00.004-07:002014-07-15T19:20:44.384-07:00And Now July Again the days are moving by so fast. I really have spent a lot of time in a fantasy world this winter and summer. I spend Too much time watching tv and too much time reading. Last week I read 4 books and this week I have already read one. I just get started and there is no one here to interrupt me so after I do the things I should do every day I just read and wander around the house to go somewhere in the house to read again.
Well, I do not really do nothing, just nothing of significance. This week I have been awaiting the birth of my first grandson. So I don't like to go out of town. I don't go outside without my phone and I don't even go and visit the neighbors.
Here is an example of what I do. I usually eat cheerios for breakfast from a white coffee cup. Then I go to the Miami University rec center and walk laps along their blue track. It is up a long flight of stairs and I have to stop twice and catch my breath. I almost always see the same people there but while they all seem to walk the same pace I am slower and walk alone. There are groups of old men who chat and walk. I often see fathers of former students walking alone. Sometimes I walk with Andy Ward's mom, but mostly I am listening to my music on my I phone.
After walking for thirty minutes I come home, stopping at McDonald's to get a cup of coffee. It is only 60 cents and tastes better than what I make. Then I shower and change clothes. This is followed by Bible study and prayer time.
Right now I go to a Wednesday night study over the book of Ezekiel. It is a book in the Old Testament with the theme that God is the only God and we need to worship him. He is sovereign and the people need to know that he is God. The Bible study is attended by about 20 women of all ages and Conversation is so good.
But back to the routine. For the rest of the day I do random things like sit on the porch, call a friend or two, go visit the neighbors, play on the computer write on the computer or scrapbook. But my favorite thing is to watch t.v.
I never used to do that much, but now I do. I think it is because I can pick what I watch and don't have to wait for a certain show to come on. Recently I have been re-watching my favorite series, Smallville. I really like this show and no matter how many times I watch it there are certain episodes that make me cry or laugh. Of course I have my favorites. In season 4 I really like the first episode when Lois Lane appears and I like episode 5 where Clark and Lineal change spirits and become each other. Tom Welling's acting is really fabulous there.
Some how I get to lunch and dinner and evening Bible study and then it is time to decompress and go to bed. See not so interesting a day. Sometimes I clean and do laundry and dishes. But not always. I wonder how my grand mothers filled their days?
On June 16th my youngest cousin Jonathan Howard White turned 50. Hard to believe! But he will always be a 5 year old in my mind because the summer he turned 5, I was a his babysitter. Happy birthday Jonathan Jo with a mouth like an O.
Funny what you remember.
On Thursday my youngest sister Thea will be 55. I hope she has a marvelous time and receives some great gifts. I have lots of fun memories of her but a favorite one is the birthday when Caroline Kennedy and Jackie O and Jon Jr. were at the park having a picnic on the day she was celebrating her birthday!
Maybe my grandson, Katie's first born, will be born on Thea's birthday; in our family we try to have babies be born on other's birthdays. I love this photo of Katie learning to walk at my parents house the summer of 1981.
I did spend a lot of time watching tv and net flix. I also worked at Kramer and other schools to earn money to pay for the roof as well as babysit.
Oh yes, we had a family vacation to both Georgia and Florida. I loved finally being warm. Florida is beautiful. Jonathan got married. The wedding was on the beach and so beautiful. My favorite parts, no need for shoes, just wear flip flops. seeing my family, and the lovely bride and brides' maids.
School is out now and the summer visits to the doctors have begun.
I have learned that I need to figure out why I fall asleep in the afternoon, how my sugars run and what to do about cravings. Ah thank you for the internet. I do poorly with a 5 o'clock wake up but great with a 6 o'clock one. To help with cravings I started taking a multivitamin. For the last week I have been recording my sugars.
Thank goodness my teeth are doing alright.
Next I need to get my sugars done at the hospital and schedule a visit with Dr. Spivey.Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06518530391865036209noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1225689855456087863.post-77997048185029376862014-06-07T06:57:00.001-07:002014-12-02T15:36:34.026-08:00SoonFYI
1. from the Raccoon saga.
The house was fixed; the raccoons removed, and I survived.
2. J-Lo's wedding
This was in Florida and was great. I had a good time loved the sun and even enjoyed time with Eric and Julie. Lauren looked lovely and I loved that it was on the sand so I didn't have to wear shoes. Sara and Bruce came, so did Thea and Paul. Robin and her boyfriend Steve came too.
3. I worked cafeteria a few times in May. One was field day which wore me out.
4. The Pastor of our church, Jeremy Carr, moved on to greener pastures in Iowa.
5. Nora and Ronnie gave me their old patio furniture. Now I can sit on the deck with friends.
Found the previous post under drafts. I keep looking out the kitchen window and looking at the grass. I am trying to see if the grass is slowly becoming green from that dead brown winter color. Every day I think that it looks a little greener.
The grass though is not the only thing I saw from my kitchen window. The other day I noticed some drain spouts from the side of my house had come unattached from the roof. There was one on the side closest to the porch and one from the front of the house by the garage and one little piece from the bottom of a pipe outside my bedroom.
My friends Kathy and her husband Mick came over when I was sick with a cold and fixed the drain pipes for me. So nice of them.
After the problem with the flooring in the kitchen I began to notice a scratching noise in the wall of the living room. I thought to myself, "Oh, no. A mouse has gotten in." Remembering the problems at the house on Elm Street, I fully expected to smell a dead mouse smell one day as I opened up the door. But no dead mouse smell ever occurred. For several days I didn't hear any scratching and then one night as I was cooking some spaghetti I heard it again. Ah, I thought the mouse likes my cooking, but again no droppings and no dead mouse smell. The sound went away.
Then over the weekend and yesterday I heard it again in the day and told my hair dresser about it. The hair dresser mentioned it to Kathy at the beauty shop today. When she and Mick came over to fix the ice machine, I told them about it. Mick went out into the yard and began to look for a way for a critter to get in, and as he was checking the house, he saw a really big raccoon getting into the attic by going under the roof. As he was also checking the house, he noticed a long section of soffit was missing from the roof in the back. So I have a new set of problems:
1. I need to get the raccoon out of the attic, the wall, and the roof.
2. I need to get the roof fixed.
3. I need to get the animal poop and urine out of my attic and wall.
4. Someone needs to check in the walls to make sure they aren't destroyed by the raccoon.
5. I need to keep on working to pay for the repairs.
And on top of this I still have a cold that doesn't want to get better!
Is it any wonder that I am looking out the back window for spring to get here with warm weather and green grass?
I know now why I am retired. I can't work even three hours a day without feeling fatigued. I have not been subbing in the classroom, but I have been subbing in the cafeteria doing cafeteria and recess duty. From the child point of view, the two best things about school.
My floors are now repaired and I am on a payment plan with the hospital. I still need to build up the savings reserve.
NO creativity here. Sorry world. I am just too tired, which I why I stopped teaching in 2011!
